Field Notes

Description:

Dandelion-like yellow-orange flowers grow from long, smooth stems without leaves. Buds, scaled with white hairs. Leaves grow flat at base, similar in shape to dandelions, hairy. Produce a white latex when damaged. Introduced from Europe.

Habitat:

Cedar Creek County Park, New York. Growing in several disturbed areas around the park.

Notes:

All parts of this plant are edible. Younger leaves are more palatable and can be eaten fresh in salads or cooked. Considered an invasive weed in many areas.

Thank you jopy and gatorfellows! I know it's a common one but I was getting flowered out with all of the wildflower spottings I had!

Ali Hemati Pour, thank you for the suggestion but these plants are not Dandelions. They have similar looks but have some distinct differences.
