Description:
Dandelion-like yellow-orange flowers grow from long, smooth stems without leaves. Buds, scaled with white hairs. Leaves grow flat at base, similar in shape to dandelions, hairy. Produce a white latex when damaged. Introduced from Europe.
Habitat:
Cedar Creek County Park, New York. Growing in several disturbed areas around the park.
Notes:
All parts of this plant are edible. Younger leaves are more palatable and can be eaten fresh in salads or cooked. Considered an invasive weed in many areas.
