Field Notes

Description:

Medium black fly with transparent wings and long legs, long white hairs on the body. Males of this species have large heads while the females have small heads, consistent with other March Fly species.

Habitat:

Cedar Creek County Park, New York. Swarming in an underused, well vegetated area bordering a marsh.
