Field Notes

Description:

Osteospermum is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the Calenduleae, one of the smaller tribes of the sunflower/daisy family Asteraceae. Also known as South African daisies.

Habitat:

These plants enjoy warmer climates and don't like persistent frosts. They love a sunny position and also seem to tolerate dry/drought conditions.

Notes:

Australia went through a severe drought only a few years back, but my daisies seemed to fare pretty well. They did, however, die during the Brisbane Flood of 2011, as did many other smaller plants but so be it; they survived the drought so that's good enough for me. Gardener's 'rights' means that I can take some cuttings... which I did from my neighbour's garden (with their blessings), and my new plantings are thriving.
