Field Notes

Description:

These small weevils were huddled together - two were mating and one other was wrapped around the front of the female weevil. They would have each been about 5 mm long with a humped back, short rostrum and elbowed antennae. The elytra had three broad brown bands fringed with short pale setae. The thorax had a pale median line which seemed to extend along the body as the inner margin of each elytron . Legs and antennae were pale.

Habitat:

Spotted on Kunzea in a national park (Churchill National Park)

Notes:

These were mistaken for dried kunzea seed pods at first. My thanks to Mark Ridgway for helping me with the ID.

Family: Curculionidae <br>
Subfamily Gonipterinae
