Field Notes

Description:

Rather large sparrow, slightly larger than his cousin House sparrow, some 15 cm in length; with grey head and black beak, rufous brown mantle and wing covers; and whitish to greyish underparts.

Habitat:

Occupies rather large distribution area and wide diversity of habitats, south of sub-Saharan belt. Here, observed on several occasions in urban setting of Kindu, Maniema province of RDC. Kindu is a town located deep in the equatorial forest, on edges of it; and on shores of lower Congo river.
