Field Notes

Description:

This Emerald Moth lacks distinct spots on the abdomen and has dark grey spots on the wings. We have so many Emerald Moths here and I just don't know if they are different species or very variable. It is similar but not the same as several others. Family Geometridae.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Thank you Mark, this species (?) seems to be very variable in it's green coloration, the color of the fringe and the spots on the abdomen.
Thank you Juan Carlos. Bayucca has doubts about these Emerald's being easy to identify. This one lacks the distinct white spots on the abdomen, although it has 2 faint white ones and 2 faint brown ones.
Nice moth Lauren. Our emeralds don't vary pattern at all only the strength as they fade and lose scale.
