Field Notes

Description:

(Eriogonum fasciculatum) is a perennial shrub in the Polygonaceae. It can be up to 2 meters tall and 3 meters wide. The leaves are clustered at branch nodes and are leathery in texture with white fuzz below. Leaves are a grey-green color, and rolled along the edges. The small flowers are 2.5 to 3 millimeters diameter, white to pinkish in color, and arranged in dense clusters.

Complex supports habitats as diverse as coastal marshes and uplands, chaparral, coastal sage scrub, oak woodland, freshwater marsh, rare vernal pool wetlands, and the incredible breeding and nesting grounds for a suite of migratory and resident bird species in south San Diego Bay. These refuges help conserve the rich biological diversity and quality of life for which the region is famous.
