Description:

A cactus that is purplish in color with long spines. Can reach 3 ft in height.

Habitat:

Spotted in southeastern Arizona. Desert scrub, open grassland, and mesquite trees.

These are purple in drought situations but turn a lovely mint green in the winter when they get some welcome water.
