Field Notes

Description:

Small (-ish) true parrot (Family: Psittacidae), at about 20-25cm in length. Colouration is green with a pale chest, throat and forehead. Native to the temperate regions of Argentina and adjoining countries. Several feral populations have established themselves in Europe and North America, probably from escaped and/or released pets.

Habitat:

Semi-arid region at about 1800 m.a.s.l. in city park. Right now they come to feed on the seeds of the Small Ballmoss (Tillandsia recurvata).

I thought it looked familiar. I know it as the Quaker Parakeet. They are beautiful birds and one of the noisiest I have ever encountered. Great shots Felix, thanks for sharing.
