Field Notes

Description:

A herd of elk, one male and seven females. The bull had velvety antlers without any points on them yet. He appeared to be shedding. One of the cows had a tracking collar and tags on her ears. She must be a research subject. They were relaxed, grazing in an open field and resting in the grass.

Habitat:

Great Smoky Mountains National Forest, in the mountains of Tennessee near the NC border. This field is right next to the highway, so a bunch people had pulled over to the shoulder of the road to admire the elk :)

Notes:

Location is approximate.
