Field Notes

Description:

Unlike Tiger Swallow tails which are mostly yellow with black stripes this is mostly black with yellow panels and markings. Blue spots on the lower part of the wings. And two yellow spots at the edge of the bottom with an orange smudge.

Habitat:

Hillsides, fields and roadsides. This one was looking for flowers in dying thistles on a lower part of a hillside.
