Field Notes

Description:

The green coloured Rose-ringed Parakeet is sexually dimorphic. The male has a red neck-ring, The neck ring of the female and the young of both sexes either show no neck rings, or only a shadow-like neck ring. unattractive loud call.

Habitat:

Fruit trees, sun flower plants etc. Loves fruit.

Notes:

Nests in tree trunk hollows and sometimes, crevices. Extremely common in New Delhi, not so much in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. In New Delhi, India, we used to see it in our balconies drinking water from the bowls put out for birds.
