Bombus californicus
37.4858, -119.966
Field Notes
Description:
Medium sized fuzzy bumblebee with black face, black, fuzzy rear, yellow bands on thorax and abdomen. Bumblebees distinguished from similarly large, fuzzy bees by the form of the female hind leg, which is modified to form a corbicula: a shiny concave surface that is bare, but surrounded by a fringe of hairs used to transport pollen.
Habitat:
Generally found in higher latitudes and/or high altitudes, wherever there are flowers. They are efficient pollinators of any crop that flowers in summer.
Notes:
Look at that pollen!
