Field Notes

Description:

Young male (ear drum approximately twice the size of the eye) green frog with striations along chin. Approximately 5 cm SVL (snout vent length.)

Habitat:

Forest edge along the rear of my yard with a few scattered pines, plenty of leaf litter and some container ponds landscaped with native plants.

Notes:

his species gets almost as big as the American Bullfrog and looks very similar but has two dorsolateral folds along the back that distinguishes it from the bullfrog. Males have a call that sounds like plucking a banjo string and an alarm call that sounds like a high-pitched squeak.
