Field Notes

Description:

This is a terrestrial orchid, and it was some 30 - 35 cm tall, growing alone and rather discreet, I almost missed it... The inflorescence was sme 5 to 6 cm tall, only two bottom rows of pink flowers opened. The leaves are basal, oval-lanceolate, covered with dark spots (Ph N° 5).

Habitat:

Heath or Moorland spotted orchid is widespread in mountainous regions of Europe; here observed in Natural Reserve of Jura mountain range, at 900m approx; on edge of a mixed forest, and on shoulders of forest roads; in good light.
