Field Notes

Description:

Small, delicate falcon often seen perched on wires, pumping its tail. It hunts insects and small animals. It nest in tree cavities, birdhouses, or crevices in buildings. L 9" WS 22". Boldly pattered head. Rusty barred. blue gray wings. Injured and in rehabilitation at VINS. Also used for public education.

Notes:

Vermont Institute for Natural Sciences (VINS) is a bird rehab. center. Most are released, but some cannot. Raptors are hit by cars, cats catch them, other birds, and others.
