Description:

The largest of all North American herons. The first three photos show the heron in flight. In the last, it's making a bit of a nuisance of itself near a nesting Canada goose ... but it didn't draw an attack from the drake, who was paddling around in the water close by.

Habitat:

Small pond in rural Mississippi, with a house and road less than 100 yards away.

Question for wiser heads. The last photo of this series shows the Great blue heron standing on a small island with a Canada goose on her nest. The male goose doesn't seem bothered by the presence of the heron ... but do herons prey on the nests of other birds? Is the heron harassing the nest?

Thank you, venus. I only had time to get three shots of it flying ... when I downloaded the camera, it was cool to see I had lucked into three different wing positions. Tall bird!
