Description:

This Black and white Kingfisher is dimorphic. The black necklace like band around the neck is broken or interrupted in the female (as in the picture). The band around the male's neck is not broken.

Habitat:

Near water.

Notes:

It hovers over one spot and then dive bombs! This photograph was taken in a village in Shantiniketan, Bolpur, West Bengal, India.The bird is eyeing a small pond.
