Field Notes

Description:

The color of the head, thorax and abdomen is black. Body length is 10mm, 1 node with spine, head shape is flat, bulging eyes and long antennae. They can jump, this made them hard to catch with forceps. I just let them crawl on to something to catch them.

Habitat:

Backyard. I discovered them, as I was uprooting some portion of my flourishing ashitaba plant.

Notes:

Never thought this kind of ant existed in my yard because I never saw them crawling around the yard. They disappeared so fast after digging them out.
Odontomachus is closely similar to anochetus but this link will tell the difference http://www.myrmecos.net/2013/01/05/how-to-tell-the-difference-between-t…
