Description:
Adults are usually 13 cm (from head to cloaca), sometimes longer, the tail is often twice the body length. Males are often almost entirely green with black spots on the back and with a broad head (lightly spotted). Females vary greatly in appearance. Once the green or brown or with spots, often 2 or 4 narrow light stripes on the back that can be lined with black stripes / spots. Females also have smaller and narrower head. Rarely both can have an irregular pattern of dark spots. The belly is yellowish, almost always without black spots. The neck is blue in mature males and some females (paler, weaker). Young are often beige, uniform or with a few bright spots (no dark edge) on the hips or 2-4 with light stripes. There is great variation. Often regarded as two species (L. viridis and L. bilineata). Melanistic occasionally occur.
