Field Notes

Description:

dark brown, about 2 in

Habitat:

tropical rainforest, amazon

Notes:

I spotted this on a bush along the trail to Hornoyaco Falls. It was fully extended when I spotted it but then as it sensed me, it curled up. So I just waited and looked around the immediate area waiting for it to uncurl. While I did I spotted some other really cool insects and butterflies. I've seen very similar caterpillars on Noah.

Thanks bayucca, I think it is a Eudocima species, but I haven't found any specific matches yet. Definitely not Sergio!
Remindsme of a Fruit-piercing Moth from Asia, Eudocima sp.. A common neotropical species would be Eudocima apta and another Eudocima procus. But I didnot ound any caterpillar references of these 2, and there might be others as well. Noctuidae, Catocalinae, Eudocima sp., please, verify and look further!
