Field Notes

Description:

Large glossy feathered bird with a long bill with which it pokes around on the ground. Wears a red skullcap on the crown. There is a small white patch on the wings. Juveniles do not have the red cap. Individuals nest close to one another and the site beneath the tree is slippery with birdshit.

Habitat:

Open land for foraging, tall treetops for nesting.
