Broad-headed Skink
Plestiodon laticeps
35.8814, -86.868
Field Notes
Description:
This spotting was about 6" long, mostly brown with some striping, and a reddish head.
Habitat:
This skink came from a crack between the house and the deck. It would sun itself, but retreat through the crack if it felt threatened (if I got too close). The house sits on mostly farmland--there are other houses around, but not very close. The deck is shaded by tulip poplar trees.
Notes:
I saw this skink sunning itself on the deck of the house where I work. I took the pictures through the sliding glass door. If I got too close to the glass, the skink would retreat through the crack it came from.
