Field Notes

Description:

The female Tarantula Hawk is known to hunt Tarantulas to become the host for their larvae.
Blue-black body, rusty colored wings and extra long legs with hooks to hold onto the spider.
The Thisbe is separated by the Formosa by not having metallic blue color and reddish antennae.
These and the Formosa have one of the most painful stings.
These are enjoying the nectar of milkweed plants.

Habitat:

deserts, shrub lands, grasslands, and arroyos. Mostly found where Tarantulas and milkweed are found.

Notes:

Spotted one on the milkweed and then about 5 more showed up until they left 5 min later.
