Description:

Insect about half inch long.

Habitat:

Found in open area at edge of older growth mixed forest.

Notes:

Found on Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge, trail head, Old Indian Trail.

That beautiful little insect looks like a Sawfly, a type of wasp. The color and shape reminds me somewhat of Genus Nematus (Willow Sawflies) but yours is hanging out on a Maple, from the looks of it.
