Field Notes

Description:

A large burrow, with an amazing amount of sand piled in front- perhaps freshly excavated after yesterday's tropical storm passed through? We got lots and lots of rain!

Habitat:

Longleaf pine / wiregrass sandhill habitat.

Notes:

I was puzzled about the large number of large crow flight feathers strewn around the burrow - must have been a dozen! Anyone with ideas ? I've not heard of crows messing with adult tortoises, nor vice-versa , and crows don't go into their burrows either .

A mystery!
