Description:

This butterfly is part of the subfamily known as ladies; Vanessa Virginiensis (American Lady), Vanessa Cardui (Painted Lady), Vanessa Annabella (West Coast Lady).

Wing tips are black with white dots toward the edges. They are outlined in a bright-orange band and become brown closer to the body.

Habitat:

Seeks moisture rich environments; forests, fields, parks, and yards. Can be found in almost any climate during the migration period

"throughout Guatemala north through Mexico and the United States to northern Canada; Hawaii, some Caribbean Islands, New Zealand, Europe, Northern Africa, Asia. Cannot survive coldest winters; most of North America must be recolonized each spring by southern migrants."
