Description:
It is a medium sized turtle, approximately 8-9 inches across the shell. The shell is green. The head and the legs of the turtle are green. Barely discernible on the photo is a red stripe behind the eye.
Habitat:
Freshwater, flowing stream. The area is not heavily traveled.
Notes:
The turtle gets its name, slider, comes from the fact that they are quick to slide off of rocks, logs or the banks if danger threatens. The head is characteristically extended to spot potential danger. Photographers must sneak up and use cover to photograph this turtle.
