Field Notes

Description:

These photos were taken at Silver Falls State Park in Silverton, Oregon*

Here a video demonstrating the extreme toxicity of these newts when eaten or swallowed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvBi5Wv8-qg

Whereas, if your skin comes into contact with them, they're harmless.

Also, my friend John can be seen demonstrating a size comparison (no animals were harmed during the photo shoot)

Habitat:

Found throughout the West Coast and British Columbia; they are a stocky newt with a rounded nose ranging from light brown to olive to brownish-black on top while on bottom they are orange or yellow.
