Description:
A woody shrub that has been reported to grow up to 15 feet tall, but is typically under 10 feet. The leaves are simple, opposite, and toothed. Small white flowers are clustered in dense corymbs.
Habitat:
Found in full or partial sun, typically at the edge of woods. Both the natural and cultivated varieties are easy to grow in well drained soil.
Notes:
Members of the genus Viburnum have traditionally been placed in family Caprifoliaceae (honeysuckle family). Whlie the USDA Plants Database and the Wikipedia page for V. dentatum continue to list it in that family, other references place it (and four other genera, including Sambucus, elderberry) in family Adoxaceae. In fact, the Wikipedia page for Adoxaceae says that genus Viburnum has been moved there.
