Description:

light green, 4 inches, 4 legs, 2 arms, big eyes on either side of the head, 2 antennas, swayed like the leaf when you got near it

This looks like a lovely female mantis from Genus Stagmomantis. Not sure which species since there are a couple that are found in CA.
