Large deciduous shrub, with large purple flowery scent.

Habitat:

Cultivated for ornemental purpose. Originated from Balkan hills.
Urban parks and gardens.

The fragrance and the early time in the year made me belive it is common "French" Lilac. The dark colour could come from the flowers not yet opened. Now, I am not a lilac specialist.

Looks a bit dark to be a common lilac, there are loads of definerent varieties. But it's defintiely a lilac and they are definitely beautiful! http://www.lilachillnursery.com/varieties
