Field Notes

Description:

A very small yellow-brown spider about 0.5mm long, with relatively large eyes. Distinctive dark smooth patch on the head and relatively short legs, with the front pair being a more dark red/brown than the other three pairs. Spins a single strand of silk in an attempt to escape. Abdomen is also quite striking with a whorl pattenrn across the main part and a set of six dots on the rear upper, with the two central ones being most prominent.

Habitat:

Mini-golf course in Taupo!! Found on a wooden stand but escaped to mixed plantings at the earliest opportunity

Notes:

Not a great photo, taken on a smartphone while playing a round of mini-golf (15th hole) with my young daughter and three friends. Lucky to get any photos at all. Would love any ideas on id - have looked at what is available in NZ and been through the 66 most common spiders and looked at Landcare Research but nothing similar,.
