Field Notes

Description:

The long fuzzy hairs of the seed head point upwards and resembles smoke, hence the name prairie smoke. The flower blooms in spring.

Habitat:

Spotted next to a trail at Deer Park in Olympic National Park.

Notes:

Some Plateau Indian tribes used three-flowered avens to treat tuberculosis.
