Field Notes

Habitat:

Usually found around edges of shallow pools in open areas. This one was feeding in a few shallow pools and the surrounding grasses at Plum Island (Parker River NWR).

Notes:

Black-necked Stilts are uncommon visitors to the northeast US. They winter as far south as Brazil and breed in the western and southern US.
