Description:
A heart-shaped face is my identifier for this beautiful bird. Graceful and silent flight.
Habitat:
This one nests in the space on the roof of a building in a busy colony. The second year I am seeing it. Gets mobbed by Drongo when returning at dawn. It is mobbed by crows if it ventures out during the day, which it was silly enough to do once.
Notes:
Usually silent but last year, the pair was very vocal...the screeching could be heard from far away. This particular species of owl is associated in Hinduism with Lakshmi, the Goddess of prosperity and wealth...so maybe, just maybe it gets a modicum of protection.
