Field Notes

Description:

White stalks, small, scale leaves. Stem can grow to 10-30 cm. Can have black flecks, a pale pink color, or rarely, a deep red coloration.

Habitat:

Woods; associated with other trees.

Notes:

Parasitic, relies on a host fungus that has a mycorrhizal relationship with a tree for its nutrients. Does not have chlorophyll.
