Field Notes
Description:
An aquatic insect, larvae of the brushlegged mayflies have a minnow-like appearance when they swim. Like all mayflies, the brushlegged mayfly lives underwater in streams and rivers for about one year before hatching as a winged terrestrial. Its common name derives from the "brushes" on the front legs which form a mesh net to capture bits of food (detritus).
