Description:

A medium-sized, semi-circular fungus growing on the side of a tree. Mostly solid brown, with a white lining on the outer edge of it. Maybe a foot long. Trametes species, which one?

The common name for this is bracket or shelf fungus. Here is a USDA field guide for fungus of Eastern forests. http://www.fs.fed.us/nrs/pubs/gtr/gtr_nrs79.pdf
hahaha sorry, it was a joke. I do not know what kind of fungus it is. but it is very cool.
awning fungus? i did a google search and couldn't find anything. Do you know family, genus? or more info about it? thanks
