Field Notes

Description:

Body length about 12-14 mm, colored as shown. Abdomen laterally flattened so that it appears paper thin in dorsal (top) view.

Habitat:

Found "sleeping" on vegetation by Heidi Eaton, near edge of pond. Surrounding habitat includes riparian trees and herbs with some evergreen trees, plus open meadows.

Notes:

Ibaliids are parasites of horntail woodwasps (Siricidae), but are themselves related to gall wasps (superfamily Cynipoidea).
