This guy is not in very good shape but I'd like to know what it is, it's not one I've seen here before (if it is inappropriate to post please let me know!).

It looks like some sort of skipper, Family HESPERIIDAE, but it's a large family of similar looking butterflies. If you want to spend some time identifying it, you can go to http://butterfliesofamerica.com/L/Hesperiidae.htm The individual species pages have pictures.
