Field Notes

Description:

Dark snake with dark bands on the body that usually fade as they get older. Key ID mark for these guys is the chocolate eye stripe as none of the water snakes in the US have that character.

Habitat:

The site I was at has tons of cottonmouths, you would see them just sitting on the banks along water. We saw several dozen in the 2.5 days we were there, they really love the swampy habitat we were in.
