Field Notes

Description:

A fantastic caterpillar with lime green on the top half and a lighter green on the bottom half, the larva of the Crocus Geometer in the genus Xanthotype is very long and quite stiff for a caterpillar. The surface of the body was more waxy than soft. In photo two, you can somewhat see the three eyes of the caterpillar. The last photo shows its position on a plant, of which I think may have been a Honeysuckle (Lonicera sp.).

Habitat:

May have been feeding on Honeysuckle (Lonicera sp.).

Notes:

According to Ken Childs:

"Recent testing indicates there is no genetic difference between Xanthotype urticaria and Xanthotype sospeta so it's likely that they will be combined into one species. I'm guessing that will be X. sospeta because it was the first one described."

I am currently awaiting further information of this, and will change the identification accordingly.

Yes, this is what you call in Chinese "尺蠖," as looper is also the name for them here. Thank you Kya!
Maybe this is what we call in Chinese "尺蠖", it mimicks a twig.
