Cashew

Cashews consists of a true and false fruit.

The fleshy pulp is a very starchy mass and is the false fruit. It stains very badly (I know from experience..esp whites) while the nut is the true fruit. It cannot be eaten raw as it contains toxins that are poisonous upon consumption.

The fruit hangs upside down from a stem, with the nut at the bottom (as seen above). The fleshy mass when ripe can be red, yellow, orange or a mix or red and yellows in colour.
