Field Notes

Description:

A new beetle for me!
This shiny leaf beetle has eight orange dots on the elytra.
The pronotum is solid black and therefore matches no species that I can find.

Habitat:

This was found under the loose bark of a manna gum tree.
It had fallen into the soil when we noticed it so is a bit dirty.

I cannot confirm the ID on this one but I suspect it is Paropsisterna octosignata which is in the correct range http://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:biodiversity.org.au:afd.taxon:1fe08a27-87a2-48b1-8582-6662e64681a0#
Yes Mark. It was found under bark with a humungous huntsman. It fell to the ground so I photographed it on some leaves for better control. It wanted some extra props.
Wonderful find. Have you placed it on callistemon ?
