Description:

The old stems, 2-3 feet tall, are last year's plants, persistent through the winter. The new shoot is this year's plant, just beginning to poke through the pine-needle duff.

Habitat:

Open, dry Ponderosa pine forest.

Notes:

Klamath Marsh National Wildlife Refuge/Yamsay Mountain.
