Description:

This Dusky Moorhen caught my eye in this beautiful setting, and the first image has a genteel beauty about it that none of the other photos possess. A lucky shot. These birds occur in Australia, New Guinea, and Indonesia, and are members of the Rallidae family. The reference links provide detailed information on this species. At the precise moment I was photographing these birds I heard a loud splash, and only a few meters away a water dragon was rushing across the pond - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/275306016 Both species live side-by-side without any drama.

Habitat:

Spotted amongst the waterlily's on the pond at the Mt. Coot-tha Botanical Gardens in Brisbane QLD.

Notes:

This pair were having a lovely time feeding and swimming amongst the lily pads. One of the flowers became a good perch to sit on for a while. Species of water lily is Blue Water Lily (Nymphaea caerulea ssp. zanzibarensis), an invasive aquatic plant from Africa.
