Description:
With a blue-gray neck, rufous chest, olive wings, red eyes, yellow beak, and hot pink legs, the grey-necked wood rail had one of the most interesting color combinations and was also one of my favorite birds in Costa Rica. A very adorable pair lived close to the farm and appeared every morning near the banana plantation to forage.
Notes:
Eight different subspecies of grey-necked wood rails are recognized, distributed from Mexico down to parts of Latin America. Another subspecies lives in northeast Costa Rica.
