Description:

The southern skimmer (Orthetrum brunneum) is a species of dragonfly that can be found in Europe, the Mediterranean, and Asia.

The southern skimmer reaches an average body length between 1.6 and 1.8 inches, with a wingspan of up to 2.8 inches. Males have a pale blue thorax while females have a greyish-brown to yellowish-brown thorax.

Habitat:

This species can be found near shallow waters, slow moving rivers, or small streams where vegetation is sparse. It can be seen between the months of June and August.
