Field Notes

Description:

This female mosquito had assumed an odd posture.

She was rather reluctant to fly away. Initially i thought she was feeding on the sap or moisture.

On closer inspection I noticed her palps were not touching the bark.
she was just resting.... :-)

Never seen this pesky creature in such beautiful light. Lovely photo.
Thanks a lot for correcting me LaurenZarate, Christine Y. For now i'll keep it as Anopheles sp. :-)
My guess, based on your location would be Anopheles stephensi, which is a vector of malaria. I can't be 100% sure of the species though...
This is probably a species of Anopheles (the genus that transmits malaria). They typically have very long palpi. Looks like a female. Great shot!
This is actually a female mosquito - you can see the partially digested bloodmeal in her abdomen. (Only female mosquitoes feed on blood). This looks like an Anopheles sp. mosquito because they typically rest with their abdomen sticking straight up in the air like this. Also, Anopheles mosquitoes have long palps. Nice shot!
